7 steps to perform Dental procedure
Oral Exam and Consultation
Before beginning the dental cleaning, we examine each pet’s mouth in detail. We are looking for any infections, mobility, or teeth that may need to get extracted, which would not allow the dental cleaning to be performed.
Hand scaling
We hand-scale the surface of every tooth, making sure that all possible plaque and calculus that has become attached to the enamel is removed.
Curettage
After scaling, we use a tool called “curette” that’s meant to clean any plaque or calculus in the gumline, without causing any damage or trauma.
Teeth polishing
Polishing the enamel is important. This helps to ensure that the positive results of the cleaning will last with proper home care. We also use a low grade fluoride prophy paste that strengthens the enamel.
Teeth rinsing
We use an oral clorhexidine rinse. The type we use is an oral antimicrobial and cleanser.
dental examination form
Each pet gets a detailed examination form. This form is used to explain everything observed during the cleaning. We notate on the chart any concerns: missing teeth, and any other pathologies. We also include our recommendations for home care.
owner's explanation and home care
Part of our service is to communicate with the owner all the results found. We speak directly with the you, show you the work that was performed, and give our recommendations for home and follow up care.
